Wilhelm Katz was in Duitsland directeur van de grootste ziektekostenverzekeraar van het land, tot de nazi's hem in 1934 ontsloegen. Het gezin Katz vertrok naar Nederland, waar Wilhelm in Amsterdam het bedrijf Verzekering Voor Ziekte startte, de eerste particuliere ziektekostenverzekeraar van Nederland.
