Renate Borchert letter 8 Aug 1940-2

Bennekom, August 8th, 1940

Dear Mister Wijler!

On behalf of all the children I would like to tell you something about our holiday. The house is surrounded by a big garden and a forest. In the garden are many flowers and fruits. Not to forget a big playfield. All of us often play korfball there and the boys football. We really like that.
We have lots of fun, especially in bicycling. I have been in Amerongen, where I used to be in a refugeecamp with Mister and Mrs. Onderwijzer. After that I was in Arnhem. From Arnhem we went to Velp and to the “bedriegertjes”. We laughed a lot and got completely wet. At first I did not dare to go over the chainbridge, but in the end it was not so scary. On the way back we laughed a lot and we had a wonderful day,
We have also been to several villages. Tuesday we went to Utrecht. Of course we were gone the whole day, because it takes 3½ hours by bike to get there. In Utrecht we ate at Mister Onderwijzer’s brother and we rested a bit. We have also been in the orphanage and we were allowed to walk around. On the way back we took another road and we rested once.
That is how we spend our holidays and we really enjoy it. I end with many regards from all the children.

Renate Borchert.
