Hermann Gartner (Gaertner), son of Simon and Regina Nathan Gartner, was born 26 May 1876 in Ruppichteroth, Germany. He was a butcher and married to Selma nee Mayer. Hermann had 9 brothers and sisters: Joseph, Lina, Nathan, Gustov, Max, Franziska, Emma, Mortiz and David.
Prior to WWII he lived in Ruppichteroth. During the war he was in the Netherlands. Hermann was murdered on 24 Sept 1945 in Auschwitz.
Hermann had two children, Paul and Irma Tobias nee Gartner (1908-2005). Irma was my grandmother. She and her husband Hugo and son Wolfgang (Walter, my father) escaped Germany and arrived in America on 21 Dec 1937 aboard the SS Berlin. They settled in Hartford, Connecticut.
