Raphaël Siegfried de Meza (known as Rudi) was the son of David de Meza and Elisabeth Regina Anna Rosendaal. He attended the state higher secondary school in Apeldoorn and subsequently trained as a secondary school English teacher. Rudi worked for a bank in Amsterdam. In 1941 he married Betsy Maarzen. No children were born from the marriage. Betsy Maarzen had two deaf-mute parents and was raised by her aunt.
