Herman Zilversmit was married to Grete Hirsch. The couple had a daughter, Elsbeth. The family lived on the corner of the Schuurkerkstraat and the Brinkstraat, where Herman Zilversmit had a butcher shop which he had taken over from his late father in 1934. His mother, Hanchen Zilversmit-Katz lived with the family.
The family Zilversmit arrived in the Vught camp on 8 April 1943. Herman Zilversmit was put to work in the Moerdijk camp. Elsbeth was deported to Sobibor in June 1943 from Vught via Westerbork on the so-called children's transport.
