Ludwig Scharlach was married to Gerda Sachs. They had a daughter called Erika. All three were rounded up from their house in the Wodanstraat in Amsterdam on 27 April 1943 by a member of the Kolonne Henneicke. A few postcards remain which they sent from Westerbork during the months of June and July 1943.
