Benjamin Levitus was the sixth child of Heiman Levitus and Esther Kosses. At age 10, he moved with his family to Amsterdam, where he met Klaartje Waas, the daughter of Leman Waas and Rachel Nebbig. They married in 1915. On 21 September 1916 their daughter Rachel was born.
Klaartje Waas died in 1924. Benjamin Levitus remarried Rachel Appelboom, daughter of Samuel Appelboom and Margaretha Spijer, on 14 October 1925. She worked as a rose cutter. In the archive is a copy of the ketubah of Benjamin Levitus and Margaretha Spijer. The couple lived with Benjamin Levitus' daughter from his first marriage at 24 Vechtstraat in Amsterdam and later at 13 Retiefstraat, third floor, in Amsterdam.
Benjamin Levitus was a sales representative. He was summoned to a labour camp, from where he was deported to Auschwitz via Westerbork on 15 July 1942. He was selected to do forced labour there. On 17 August 1942 he died at the infirmary. A copy remains of his death certificate from Auschwitz. His wife Rachel Appelboom was taken from her home on 17 December 1942 and deported to Auschwitz via the Hollandsche Schouwburg and Westerbork.
