David Wessel was the oldest child in a family of six children. He was a casual/factory worker. He married in 1898 to Anna de Leeuwe. He had six children with her.

After the bombardment of Rotterdam on 14 May 1940, David Wessel was fetched by one of his children to Alphen aan den Rijn. His child's family lived at Stationsweg 2. David Wessel was picked up during the raid of 30 September 1942 in Alphen aan den Rijn and deported to Auschwitz via Westerbork.
