At Easter 1940 this family still lived in The Hague, at the Waalsdorpervlakte 159. Presumably they were forced to move away from there during the war. Their last address was that of nursing home Rehoboth in Driebergen.
Gustav Kaufmann was the father of Else Kaufmann. Adolf Jonas and Else Kaufmann had two children who survived the war. Gustav and Else Kaufmann were family of the Kaufmanns of the Rotterdam firm "N. V. Kaufmann's Huidenhandel", the biggest Dutch firm in the skin trade.
On or around 8 October 1943 Else Kaufmann was arrested in Rehoboth together with her daughter and son-in-law. Hastily a short note was written saying they were on their way to Westerbork. On 31 October they sent a card to one of the nurses of Rehoboth. They were deported to Bergen-Belsen on 13 September 1944. Else died there.
