Schoontje Engelsman was a daughter of Nathan Engelsman and Judith Engelsman-Frijda. Judith lived on the Plantage Prinsenlaan in Amsterdam together with her other daughter Nathalia.

Schoontje Hartog Izabella Engelsman was from 1913-1935 working as a teacher on the 'Israelitische armenschool Tipheret Bachurim' in Groningen. She remained unmarried. In 1932 she travelled to Palestine, made photos there and gave lectures at her return in the Netherlands, showing her zionist interest.
