Jakob Israël Jakobs was the son of Mozes Jakobs and Rachal Liefman Muller. He married Ester van der Vegt in 1907, who died in 1940. He lived with his son Mozes Maurits Jakobs. He had another son Maurits David.

The mayor of Coevorden requested that Jakob Israël Jakobs, a Dutchman and a merchant, be located, detained and brought to trial. He was suspected of having changed his place of residence without obtaining the required authorization. This description referred to Jews who had gone into hiding.
