Biography

About Sara Mesritz-Gompers.

Sara Gompers was a daughter of Levie Barend Gompers and Schoontje Jacob Boas, a fammily of nine children: Mietje, Barend, Sara herself, Elias and Philip, who have been killed during the Holocaust. Two children, Joseph and Marcus have passed away already before the war and one son, Michel, has survived the war. Her sister Naatje passed away in Amsterdam in September 1940.

Sara Gompers married the butcher Elias Mesritz from Meppel in Zaandam on 5 September 1893, a son of Lezer Mesritz and Alida Meijer. The couple had two children: Alida and Levie, who lived togehter with their mother Sara at Weesperstraat 37 downfloor. After Levie's marriage in 1942, his spouse Vrouwtje Swart moved over to them too. Elias Mesritz passed away in Amsterdam on 6 June 1932 and he was interred in the Jewish Cemetery of Muiderberg on 8 June 1932.

On 20 May 1943 Sara was arrested and carried off to Westerbork, where she stayed in barrack 55. On 25 May she was put on transport to Sobibor and on arrival there on 28 May 1943, immediately killed.
