Leon Velleman was a son of Levie Velleman and Jane Spier. He married in Rotterdam on 9 December 1915 to Jenny van Biene, daughter of Gregorius van Biene and Saartje Witstijn. The couple divorced on 6 February 1923. They had 2 children togehter: Marie and George Louis, who survived the Holocaust and emigrated to Australia.
Leon remarried on 22 November 1923 in Rotterdam to Johanna Cornelia Meijer. She was non-Jewish. Both have been killed during a bombardment of Rotterdam in May 1940.
