About Gustav Leers

In 1937 Gustav Leers and his family fled their home town Hamburg. They came to Rotterdam and lived at 160 Stadhoudersweg. Gustav Leers found employment with the Tentler company in Rotterdam. In 1941 Gustav Leers and his family were forced to leave their house because it was thought to be too close to the North-Sea coast. Gustav Leers lived in Soest from 1941 onwards.

The mayor of Soest requested that the stateless Jew Gustav Leers, residing at 13 Da Costalaan in Soest, who had violated the regulations by changing his place of residence without permission, be located, detained and brought to trial. This description referred to Jews who had gone into hiding.

Gustav Leers was arrested on the train to France while trying to flee to Switserland. He was deported via Drancy to Auschwitz.
