Joseph Brilleman was a son of Gerrit Brilleman and Marianna Root. His mother Marianna passed away on 5 May 1913 in Amsterdam and his father Gerrit remarried there on 25 September 1913 to Lena Hofman.
Joseph married in Amsterdam Watergraafsmeer on 3 November 1927 to Adriana Gobetz, daughter of Salomon Gobetz and Betje Denneboom.
