About Joseph Jacques van Weezel

Joseph Jacques van Weezel (nicknamed Joop) was unmarried.He came from a social-democratic family. His father had been active in the General Dutch Diamondworkers Union (ANDB) and in the workers cooperation De Dageraad.

Joseph Jacques van Weezel was a chemist. He worked as an editor and scientific staff member of the Communist newspaper De Tribune, later Het Volksdagblad. He did illegal work for the Dutch Communist Party (CPN). On 6 March 1941, he was arrested in Amsterdam. Via the prison at the Weteringschans in Amsterdam and the prison in Scheveningen (the so-called Oranjehotel) he was deported to Dachau.

During the last days of the war, Jospeh Jacques van Weezel was deported from Dachau. On 23 April 1945 he was part of a transport that left the camp with unknown destination.
