Friedrich Max Julius Albert Elsbach was divorced. According to tradition he and Helena Schwarz would be picked up in 1941 by an English seaplane near the Eem. When the plane did not arrive they drowned themselves. On the cemetery of Bunschoten a memorial stone was placed for these two people.
The text on the stone is:
"Het leven wilde scheiden
de dood vereenigde beiden. "
("Life wanted to separate
death united both")
