Machiel Pinto was the fifth child of Jacob Juda Pinto and Duijfje Gobets. He was probably born in Amsterdam at the Rapenburgerstraat 16. Machiel Pinto got married twice. The first time with Rosaline Kerkmeester. After she died, he married Cato Koster on 29 September 1927. De ceremony took place in the house of Cato Kosters parents.
