Menkens Sallo Cohen studied medicine in Utrecht and Amsterdam. On 21 November 1934 he sat for his medical finals in Amsterdam. On 6 July 1938 he took his PhD degree in Amsterdam for his thesis on the cholesterine level of blood with carcinoma. He specialized in surgery and subsequently in orthopaedics. He became an orthopaedic surgeon in Enschede. Menkens Sallo Cohen was arrested during a raid in Enschede in the night of 13 to 14 September 1941.
