Regina Wijl was the daughter of Levi Nathaneel Wijl and Martha David Woudstra. She remained unmarried her entire life. Regina Wijl worked as a housekeeper and until 1937, she lived at Grote Oeverstraat 37 in Meppel, the home of her employer, Meijer Frank, an elderly gentleman. After his death, she had to leave his home, and she moved into a house at Grote Oeverstraat 76. In the early hours of 3 October 1942, Regina Wijl was removed from her home and taken to Westerbork.
