Salomon Gobes was the son of Jacobus Gobes and Etti van Buren. He was first married to Marianne van Buren. From this marriage three children were born, among whom Freddy Jacobus and Paul Albert. The couple got divorced in 1930. In 1933 Salomon Gobes married Grietje van Esso.

Salomon Gobes was a metal merchant. He earned a good living with it during the First World War. In the twenties he lost his fortune on the stock market. He then left with his family to Antwerp. Shortly afterwards he left his wife.

Salomon Gobes was killed in concentration camp Amersfoort on 5 November 1942.
