About David Meijer

The mayor of Winterswijk requested that the cattle dealer David Meijer, his wife Frieda Romann and his daughters Rositta Beatrix and Emilie Philippine, residing at 54 Haitsma Mulierweg in Winterswijk, be located, detained and brought to trial. They had left their home without the required authorization. This description referred to Jews who had gone into hiding.

Identifying characteristics of David Meijer: 'About 5'7" tall, blond hair, blue eyes, no beard or moustache, gestures a lot, does not appear Jewish.' Identifying characteristics of Frieda Meijer-Romann: 'About 5'5" tall, brown eyes, black hair in a bun, speaks poor Dutch, Southern appearance.'

David Meijer helped Jews in hiding. He and a few farmers built a camp for people to hide in the nature reserve 't Korenburger Veen, which accommodated over twenty people. On 28 November 1942 he was arrested in Winterswijk and deported to Germany via Westerbork.
