Maurits Kann was married. The couple had four children. The family lived in Naarden.
Before the war, Maurits Kann was chief editor of the Groene Amsterdammer. He co-operated on publications of the Comité van Waakzaamheid (Vigilance Committee). For the Netherlands, he was the intermediary with the 'Jewish Colonisation Society'.
Soon after the German invasion, he became active in the Ordedienst (OD). He formed part of the first editorial team of Het Parool. The name of this illegal paper was his idea. He tried to establish contact with London with a radio transmitter.
At the end of May 1941, Maurits Kann was picked up by the Germans and condemned to death during one of the OD-trials. He was killed on 27 February 1943 in camp Sachsenhausen at the age of 48.
