On 3 April 1921, Sara married Benjamin Krönstein, a Russian merchant, in London. But before the birth of their son, Benjamin Jacob, she returned to her parental home. The marriage was dissolved in 1935. Sara and her mother ran a shop selling ironmongery and manufactured goods, located under the lighthouse Brandaris on Terschelling. On 25 August 1942, Sara was forced to move to Amsterdam, by order of the occupying forces.
