Jonas Schaap was the son of Gompel Wolf Schaap and Hendrina Walvisch. He married 21 July 1915 in Amsterdam to Betje Zwaaf, a daughter of Abraham Zwaaf and Sientje Roodveldt.
Jonas Schaap had six other brothers: Wolf, Abraham, Salomon, Jonas, Joseph, Mozes and Hartog who also have been killed during the Holocaust. His only sister has survived the war.
