Marcus Israël and Clara Barnstijn were married at Westerbork transit camp on 1 March 1943. He was a retired civil servant at the Dutch Railways, and the widower of Clemence Maisonpierre. He was a son of the cattle dealer Jacob Israël and Helena Wolff, both deceased. Clara, a merchant, was the widow of Abraham Marcus. She was a daughter of Ephraim Barnstijn and Schoontje Dondorp, both deceased.
