Fred Samuel Fuchs was the eldest son of Norbert Fuchs and Kathi Rebekka Fuchs. At the outbreak of war, he was attending the Secondary Technical School on Plantage Middenlaan. He was an active boy scout, and in the summer of 1941 he went off to a scout camp (although scouting had been banned by this time). In June he was taken away from his parents' home. He was sent to Schoorl and then deported to Mauthausen, as was a fellow scout, Israel Oostra.
