About Nico Max Richter

Nico Max Richter was the son of Izaak Richter and Sara Manheim. At his parents’ insistence, he studied medicine, but music was his passion. During his school years at a HBS [modern-style grammar school], he composed his first pieces. In time, he became a noted composer. His career came to a premature finish in 1942. He was deported to Dachau, where he remained until the end of the war. Nico returned to Amsterdam in a severely weakened state and died there a few months later.
