Salomon Bendien was a brother of Alfred Bendien, who was well known in Ootmarsum as the director of the textile factory the Twentsche Damast-, Linnen- en Katoenfabriek and as a member of the town council. Salomon Bendien received vocational training at various German weaving mills and subsequently worked at the factory in Ootmarsum. He was the managing director of the factory from 1934 to 1938. Every week he travelled to Ootmarsum from his home in Almelo, first by coach and later by car.
