David Hijman Hirsch was a son of Benzion Joachim Hirsch and Sara Jetta van Zwanenberg.

A former student of David Hijman Hirsch remembers him as an excelllent teacher. In the years 1936-1940 he received Jewish lessons from David Hijman Hirsch, together with a a girl from the Beethovenstraat. The annual highlight was a visit to the 'Matze' factory of De Haan in the Valkenburgerstraat, and a visit to his father who owned a cigar shop in the Dufaystraat.
