About Isodoor Henry Joseph Vos

Isidoor Henry Joseph Vos studied medicine in Amsterdam, where he sat for his medical finals on 17 June 1911. He obtained his doctoral degree on 28 December 1918 in Amsterdam with a thesis on 'The milk supply to Amsterdam'. He lived at the Amstel 25 in Amsterdam.

Isidoor Henry Joseph Vos was health officer. Furthermore, he was a member of the Parliament for the liberal Vrijheidsbond. In the periods 1921-1929 and 1933-1935, he was also elderman for public healthcare in Amsterdam.

Vos joined the Dutch Zionist League (NZB) at a young age. He has been chairman of the Dutch Committee of the Alliance Israélite Universelle, member of the church council of the Jewish community in Amsterdam and member of the Central Committee of the Dutch-Jewish Church Association. He did a great deal for the Joodse Invalide. He was very publicly spirited and was in great demand as a speaker. He occupied management positions in innumerable organisations, for example the Organisation against Pollution of Water, Soil and Air, the Central Leage against TB and the Drente Association in Amsterdam.

He attrackted many votes for the Vrijheidsbond among the Jews in Amsterdam. He even attracted votes among non-Jewish tradespeople, for example by opposing shop closure on Sunday. In 1933, the election billboards in Amsterdam read: 'Who won't let the shopkeepers down? They all know, 'Vos' is their man !'

In Februari 1943, a brief obituary appeared in Het Joodsche Weekblad for Isodoor Henry Joseph Vos.
