Hijman de Vries was a son of Abraham de Vries and Rebecca de la Bella. He married 5 November 1902 in Amsterdam Branca Zak, a daughter of Machiel Zak and Judith Olivier. The couple had six children of whom two have died already as babies. The others, Abraham, Judith, Rebecca en Michel, have been killed all during the Holocaust.
