Leentje van der Sluis was a daughter of Joseph van der Sluis and Esther Spaanbroek. Her siblings were Simon and Elisabeth, (who have survived the Holocaust), Klara, Gerrit, Ephraim, Jaantje, Sientje, Isak, Benjamin and Marcus.
Leentuje married Barend Bonewit in Amsterdam on 13 July 1927, a son of Levie Bonewit and Sophia Roe. They had three children together.
