Salomon Levie (known as Saaltje) was a son of Mozes Gerson Levie (born in Roden in 1839) and Anna Bendiks (born in Veendam in 1850). He had nine brothers and sisters, including Benjamin and Philippus. His father Mozes Gerson Levie had a shop on the Varkensmarkt in Assen.

Salomon Levie lived with his brother Jozef. He had Down syndrom.
