Israel Lopes Cardozo was a son of Samuel Lopes Cardozo and Roosje Hamel. He married Bendina van Dijk in Amsterdam on 9 August 1928, a daughter of Benjamin van Dijk and Sophia Duveen. The couple had one daughter in 1937, who, just as her mother, has survived the Holocaust.
Israel Lopes Cardozo was born in a family with six children. Besides his parents, also he and his brother Barend have been killed by the nazis.
