Quotation from the interview with Mathilde (Tilly) Blog about her father Simon Blog: 'In September 1942 her father was arrested for aiding the resistance. After staying in various prisons (Tilly remembers that she and her mother smuggled salt into the prison inside a shoelace), including the one at Amersfoort, he ended up in Westerbork. In his letter to his family from there he wrote: "I have reached Gan Eden." Seeing me raise my eyebrows, she explained that after Amersfoort, everything must have seemed like paradise. He was deported to Sobibor, where he was killed the day he arrived, 20 March 1943.'
