Bertha Wertheijm was a daughter of Levie Wertheijm and Heintje Vogel. She married 7 August 1901 in Amsterdam Hartog Piller, a son of Mozes Piller and Naatje Snoek. The couple had four children, of whom two have survived the Holocaust. However, Heintje and the still at home living unmarried son Mozes were killed in the Shoah.
Since September 1938, her grandson Mozes Tertaas (a son of Gidion Tertaas and her daughter Heintje) resided with her and her husband Hartog Piller.
Bertha's husband Hartog passed away on 13 May 1940 in Amsterdam, just after the outbreak of WWII in Holland and was interred in the Jewish Cemetery in Diemen.
