Erna Rath was a daughter of Nathan Rath and Mina Stopper, both born in Poland and both have survived the Holocaust.
Erna had three other brothers: Rubin Hersh, Gerschon and Simon. Both the latter two brothers have survived the war too.
Erna married in Amsterdam on 17 February 1937 to Salem Rath from Mainz, but divorced him on 10 February 1940. On 9 July 1941 she married again to Barend Waterman, with whom she had a son Benjamin.
