Prior to the war, Josef Rubens lived in Grevenbroich Germany. From 1940 until 1943 he lived in Limbricht, The Netherlands.

Josef Rubens was deported to Sobibor in June 1943 from Vught via Westerbork on the so-called children's transport. He was 13 years old when he died.
