Leo Leefmans was a son of Hartog Leefmans and Lina Arnheim. His parents both died before the war. His mother died in 1937 in the Apeldoornse Bos. Leo temporarily lived in a Jewish orphanage in Utrecht in 1922. He was ten years old at the time.
