Gerard Adriaan Metz studied medicine in Leiden, where he sat for his medical finals on 26 November 1930. He obtained his doctoral degree on 11 April 1930 (before his medical finals) in Leiden on a thesis about 'The origin of lung emphysema'.
Gerard Adriaan Metz worked for some years as assistant to Dr Johannes Hekman (1878-1958) in the Municipal Hospital at the Bergweg in Rotterdam. He lived at 115 Statensingel in Rotterdam and practised at 48a Schieweg.
