Hesselina (Line) van Essen was a daughter of Salomon Izaak van Essen and Wilhelmina Spier. She was a dentist. She was the widow of Bertholdt de Beer, a dentist as well, who died in the beginning of 1940.

Hesseline van Essen was member of the governing board of the
Nederlandse Vereniging voor Mond- en Tandhygiëne 'Het Ivoren Kruis'. Because of the perescution of the Dutch Jews she was forced to lay down this function in 1941.

In the Nederlandsch Tijdschrift voor Tandheelkunde (1946), a list of dentists killed in the war appears on pp. 118-119. Hesselina Beer-van Essen was among them.
