Carel Weijel walked away on 24 January 1942 from the Apeldoornse Bos. He was brought back on 8 February 1942 from Haarlem by the police.

The Police Commissioner of Apeldoorn requested on behalf of the Public Prosecutor that Carel Weijel, 'a Jew, patient in the medical institute the Apeldoornse Bosch in Apeldoorn', who had escaped from the institute on 25 July 1942, be located, arrested and brought to trial. His description was given as follows: 'Height approx. 5.5", black hair (cut very short), broad face; dressed in dark grey fancy suit and probably wearing glasses.'
