Mirjam Scheiner was Emile Jacobs en Luise Cats' foster daughter. Mirjam was smuggled to the Netherlands in February 1939, when she was 7 weeks old. The Jacobs family in Amsterdam took care of her to the extent that they eventually wished to adopt her. Evidence to this fact comes from a letter from 1939 addressed to Mirjam's biological parents. Because of the war, the Jacobs' were not able to formally adopt.
