Hans Löb came from a devout Catholic family that did not deny its Jewish roots. His parents were Ludwig Löb and Jansje van Gelder. He was an engineering draughtsman and electrical engineer by profession. Five of his brothers and sisters entered the cloister. Hans is said to have refused to wear a Star of David and to have gone into hiding. He was arrested on the Belgian border during an escape attempt.
