About Jacob Israël

Jacob Israël was a son of Marcus Israel and Clemence Maisonpierre. He married Marie de Jong in 1929 in The Hague. Shortly before the war they separated. In 1941 he was "engaged" to Johanna Croiset, whose family owned a chemist's on the Spui in The Hague. Jacob Israël was arrested there for not wearing the Jewish star. He used to be chief cashier of the Nederlandse Bank, but was not allowed to work there anymore at that time.
