Esther Spaanbroek was a daughter of Gerrit Spaanbroek and Jaantje Cohen. She married on 24 August 1887 in Rotterdam to Joseph van der Sluis, a son of Ephraim van der Sluis and Clara van Velsen. Joseph however passed away on 4 April 1910 in Amsterdam.
The couple had eleven children together, of whom Simon and Elisabeth have survived the Holocaust, unfortunately not the other children Klara, Gerrit, Ephraim, Jaantje, Sientje, Isak, Leentje, Benjamin and Marcus.
