Andries Ensel was a son of David Ensel and Hanna Fransman. He married 12 March 1900 to Martha Cohen, a daughter of Benjamin Cohen and Mietje Cohen.
Andries came from a family with 10 children. Three children have died before the war. Besides himself, all his other siblings, Rebecca, Abraham, Christina, Heintje, Manus and Raphael have been killed during the Holocaust.
