Joseph de Magtige was a son of Israel Mozes de Magtige and Eva Marcus. He married 11 November 1885 in Amsterdam to Saartje de Klijn, a daughter of Elkan Gerrit de Klijn and Leentje Nathan Gobes. The couple had seven children, of whom three children: Elkan, Israel and Mozes have been killed during the Holocaust. His son-in-law Meijer Segal, who was married to the in 1920 deceased daughter Esther de Magtige, remarried in 1921 Anna Scholte.
Saartje de Klijn however deceases 20 August 1931 and Joseph de Magtige remarried 30 August 1933 to Elisabeth Elzas, a daughter of Joseph Elzas and Engel van de Kar.
