Johan Frank initially studied maths and physics (further algebra and analytic geometry) in Groningen and subsequently medicine in Amsterdam and Leiden. He sat for his medical finals in Leiden on 13 January 1899 and he settled as a family doctor in Hengelo. He was involved with the fight against tuberculosis, focusing on radiology. Johan Frank was a board member of the Dutch Association for Electrology and Radiology. He died of a hart problem. Johan Frank was married. The couple had three children.
